    Are Halo 1 & 2 backwards compatible?!?

    I have a 360 and I know Halo 1 & 2 are backwards compatible with the 360 but I heard you need the latest update and an HDD?? I have an HDD but I don't have XBL because of my internet. So do you NEED the update to play Halo 1& 2 or can I just pop them and start playing?
