do you need halo 3 to play halo 3 ODST?

im getting a xbox 360 elite and i can get 4 games with it. i was just wondering if you need to have halo 3 to play halo 3 ODST because if you dont then it would be a waste if i chose both of them. if you dont need halo 3 to play ODST do you not get what you get in the original halo3?

Halo 3 ODST is a stand alone expansion pack, so you can play it without owning Halo 3. With Halo 3 ODST, you should also get a Halo 3 multiplayer disc. This will allow you to play Halo 3 multiplayer games with friends or on XBox live.
