Do you think ranks matter in Halo 3?

I have been busting my butt these last few days trying to gain skill, as I a a Captain and I want to be at least a Colonel or so, but I have been realising there is no point to it.

I do not know why I want to be a general, maybe people just see that logo and think you're the best, or maybe it just looks cool or something, I dont know. I just feel like somethings missing when I am just a Captain, and I feel like I should rank up.

Getting skill is hard, and when Im doing this I often get frustrated and finding myself having no fun. Do you think I should just quit?

Ranking in online does'nt matter.
Skill + enjoyment = a fun time playing the game
But playing to rank up and find your self not having much fun? =P id give up and just enjoy while your playing
