Halo 3 Disc Error?

Whenever I try to load/play the mission "The Covenant", I get a Cannot Read Disc error and then I notice the xbox 360 is quiet, not making much of a sound, like it stopped playing the disc. Can someone shed some light on the issue? Thanks.
I bought this copy of Halo 3 a week ago, no scratches or smudges, and bought my 360 a week ago.

if its the disk, go rent one from blockbuster and then return it with the defected one, i havent done that myself but my friend has twice. I know that is shady but i am not about to go buy another one you know.

i have halo 3 its kool i play it all the tim. just clean the disc and keep trying. or it might be your xbox 360
