Halo 3 mythic and legendary map packs?

Hi,
my friend came over to my house and we played a bit of halo, he had recently bought the map packs and was able to download them onto my HD so we could play them, when he left i tried playing them by myself and wouldnt let me.
so just wondering do i have to buy and download them again to play them or can i just pay for them and then play, as the maps show up on my HD.

Since your friend downloaded and paid for the maps, they will only work if his gamertag is signed in...

otherwise, you will have to pay for them... but just buy Halo ODST for it comes with all the map packs, plus the new one.
