halo 3 odst / halo reach beta question help please urgent!!!!!?

okay i just got off the phone with a guy at gamestop i wanted to make sure i get the beat for halo reach

i asked him if i had to pre order to get the beta he said yes but he also said that it's for the special edition only
wtf

no one told me that is it true do i have to pre order to get the beta and if so do i have to get the special edtion to get the beta

because they are sold out of the special edtion

it says on there web you will get the beta and that's for the standerd edition

I don't think you have to, but I'm not 100% sure... I know its supposedly supposed to have expansions as well.
