Halo 3 Ranking in Lone wolves?

I was just wondering how many matches i have to win in a row to rank up in Lone Wolves. And when i say winning does that mean i have to get first place or can i still get second and third

secound and thrid will still rank u up but 1st is best you will start going up by 3s is u get 1st for a couple lvls then by 2s then 1s if u lose alot of games its harder to rank up tho after awile its almost impossible to rank up after so many games
