halo 3 unable to play custom maps?

well i recently got halo 3 a few days ago so a bunch of friends and I wanted to play one of there maps that customly made and it would let us cause it said my profile was restiricted form playing user created maps plz help

It might be because your xbox live expired or your friends maps are locked privately
