How To Get The Katana In Halo 3?

So i want to get the katana in halo, and no i don't mean the Hayabusa armor, i'm not that much of a n00b lol. I don't have any map packs, so im guessing all i have to do is get the original 49 Achievements/1000 GamerScore, so far i have 930 GS from halo 3 and soon after finishing meta game campaign and a little bit of online play ill have 985 GS (I'm missing Two for One, Steppin' Razor and Overkill.), so once i get 1000 GS ill get it? but i have heard its glitched and sometimes it never unlocks/ unlocks early (but i'm not that lucky).

it should work fine once since you got 1000 but since they added new Achievements, you might have to go the extra mile and get 1200 but that doesnt have occasionally.

When you get 49 out of 79 achievements (it doesn't matter which ones) and achieve a gamerscore on that game of 1000 or more you will unlock the awesome ninja sword (Katana) on your back. You can't use it though. I wish you could...
