The above answer is incorrect. The melees are the same. The only difference is the way your player looks. If he looks like a dinosaur he is an elite, if he looks more like a human he is a spartan. People claim that since the Elite's head is weird shaped it is harder to hit. The Developers of the game however have said that the hit boxes are exactly the same. So really it doesn't matter at all, just which ever one you find looks cooler.
