Why are there Brutes in Halo 3 Recon?

I know its a new game and all, but I am pretty sure that at the time of the New Mambosa battles in Halo 2, the Elites where still the main enamy to worry about. The Brutes dont take the Elites place until a while later, and if they did take over then, how did they send so many down to NEw Mambosa so fast? (BTw I saw these brutes on the trailer) xD

i think you're talking about ODST
but you still fight brutes in halo 2. they were just a little harder than elites back then... idk what time frame ODST takes place in tho. i just heard it was the bridge between halo 2 and 3
