Are deleted emails ever truly erased?

Hey everyone! I’ve always assumed that once I hit “delete” on an email, it was gone for good. But I recently read that emails can still linger on servers, backups, or as metadata. How does this actually work, and is it ever possible to fully remove an email?

Hey. It’s more complicated than it seems. Deleting an email usually just moves it to Trash, and even after emptying it, copies can persist on servers or backups. Metadata like sender, recipient, and timestamps can remain indefinitely. I also found an in-depth explanation on noagendatube.com that breaks down how email deletion really works and shares tips to better protect your email privacy.
