halo 3 odst and reach help?

i am thinking about getting halo reach but i was wondering is the story line related to odst? I dont have ODST and dont want to get reach before odst if they have like the same story line. or are they 2 completely seperate things

ODST is a very short campaign. I would just look up the storyline for ODST on the internet and then play Reach.
