Does Halo 3 really deserve being rated M?

I would like to buy this for my sons. They are 12 and are mature for their age. For christmas, the both wanted Halo 3 to go with their new 360. It is rated M. Does it really deserve that rating?

Please if you are answering this question, Explain your answer in detail.

Halo 1,2,and 3 should be rated T for Teen. A 12 year old kid can handle Halo 3, but dont buy a game like Gears of War for him. Not much blood in Halo 3, no sexual content, and no swearing. Should've been a T rating. There is also a content filter inside the game that works with family settings inside the game menu. I would buy this game for your kids, but I would watch out for the people who swear and such over XBL.
