Halo 3 laggy game i need help asap?

I can no longer use the ethernet cord because my dad doesn't like it being dragged into the basement and the modems on the second(middle) floor. So i went out and bought a $55 wireless adapter for the xbox. At first the thing was working perfecto. Now i get good connections on the dash board and crappy connections on Live when im in games and i always get rejected out of games and i usually don't even get a game please help

It could either be broken or you need to move closer some how.
try going closer to the modem if posible.if that dose not work ask to replace it.
